As a professional, it’s not insane to believe in the perfect career, workplace and boss. The truth is sometimes we have to let the fantasy go and accept that nothing in life is perfect. Every woman deserves a career that satisfies, challenges and makes her happy but there small things that we can all let go.
You may dislike someone at work
Working with people you dislike is the absolute worst! I used to fantasize about finding a job where I loved everyone and we sang around camp fire. Just like in regular life where you don’t like everyone you meet, the same is true about the workplace. Suck it up and remember you only have to see them during work hours.
You may not be the best
Okay, I relish in being the best just like the next girl. Realistically, at work you won’t be the best at everything. Don’t get hurt about this or beat yourself up. This is actually a great thing because it means you have someone to learn from and improve yourself. Suck it up and remember you have to grow in your skill set.
Being a workaholic doesn’t make you better
Working hard is one thing. Working smart is another. Spending every minute working and answering emails doesn’t make you a better employee, it makes you burnt out. Employees that don’t have a realistic work/life balance usually are unhappy and dissatisfied. Suck it up and take a break.
No matter your situation, know you deserve the best in your career. Also recognize when to compromise and where there are opportunities to learn.
